Why are Ethiopians and Eritreans racist towards black people of west African origin?
Yeah i know they are Habesha and they are Arab or something or at least mixed with arab/caucasion. but why do they hate West african black Bantu, they go around calling them "Bariya" and "Shanko"?? what deos that mean?
@Windam, what are you talking about? West Africa rooting for pan-africanism? Last time I checked that call was strong across Africa, and the African Union is based in Addis so your notion of Ethiopians not wanting to be associated w/ Pan-Africanism is absurd.
To answer your question, I don't see how you could group all Ethiopians in with the Habesha when there are over 80 ethnic groups in the country; the Oromo being the largest. Ethiopians and Eritreans aren't racist, from my knowledge. I wonder, how could an African country be completely racist against another one? If anything, the Ethiopians have more hate for the Eritreans (and vice versa) than their Eastern or Western African neighbors. Oh and boriya apparantly means slave in Amharic, if I'm right, it's not a slur for western africans, just one used against slaves when slavery was practiced in Ethiopia.
